Reiki pronounced 'Ray-Key' is a form of holistic spiritual healing based on eastern co
ncept of energy flow. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning 'Universal Life Force Energy'. The system was developed and introduced in Japan by Mikao Usui through his studies of ancient Sanskrit text and meditation.
Reiki is the healing energy of the universe and it is channelled to the recipient through the hands of a Reiki practitioner to energise and realign any blocked energy flow that they may be experiencing, balancing and harmonising 'Mind, Body and Spirit' addressing the root cause of the imbalance. Eastern medicine has always known and worked with this energy which flows through all living things. Tai Chi, Yoga and Acupuncture are based on the free flow of this energy.
The session is informal and relaxing and lasts 60 minutes. During the session the client may wish to have a partner, member of the family or friend to sit in with them if they wish. A client information form/medical questionnaire will need to be completed followed by a short consultation to discuss any problems or issues you may have. Consultations can be carried out over the telephone if the client wishes. All information written or verbal is treated strictly private and confidential and will not be disclosed to any third party.
When the treatment begins the client remains fully clothed at all times through out the session, the practitioner places there hands gently on or over the client, following their consent for contact to take place but there is no contact on personal boy areas. The client will then draw on the amount of Reiki they need at that time.
Half way through the treatment the client may be asked to turn over on to their front if they are able to do so, if this is uncomfortable they may remain on their back or turn onto their side. At the end, the practitioner gently taps the client on the shoulder to signal the treatment has ended, after which they will be asked to take a minute before getting off the couch and then given some water to drink to assisst de-toxing and an opportunity to talk about any thoughts or feelings they might have.
What Does Reiki Feel Like?
Reiki may feel like a continuous flow of high frequency very subtle energy, you may feel warmth, coolness, mild tingling, twitching, numbness or other sensations or nothing at all. Clients who are familiar with meditation practices say that they enter a deep meditative state, where the mind calms, the breathing slows and a feeling of well being and better sense of awarenss is attained.
